Preparation of Superhydrophobic and Super-Oleophilicity 304 Stainless Steel Mesh and Its Performance of Oil-Water Separation

Abstract

At present, the oil-water separation materials with high cost and complex preparation process perform poor effect. In order to solve this problem, the 304 stainless steel strainers as substrates were treated by FeCl3 solution etching method to obtain rough surfaces and heptafluorodecyl trimethoxysilane to modify the surface. Finally, the superhydrophobic and supero-leophilic stainless steel meshes with excellent oil-water separation properties were obtained, and the structure and performance were characterized. Results showed that the contact angle between the superhydrophobic stainless steel mesh and water reached 151°. The oil-water separation efficiency reached 90% for the common oil with small viscosity and small surface tension, which indicated the sample processed excellent oil-water separation performance. In addition, the prepared superhydrophobic and super-oil-wet stainless steel mesh had good reusability. After 100 times of repeated oil-water separation, the contact angle drop was still up to 145°, and the superhydrophobicity and super-oleophilicity could still be maintained.
