Materials Protection (ISSN 1001-1560; CN 42-1215/TB) is a monthly academic journal in the field of surface engineering. It was established in 1960. It is a national academic journal supervised by the China Machinery Industry Federation, hosted by China Academy of Machinery Wuhan Research Institute of Materials Protection Co., Ltd. The journal is published by the Editorial Department of Materials Protection. It is publicly distributed both domestically and internationally. The current editor-in-chief is Professor LEI Mingkai from Dalian University of Technology. Materials Protection is one of the earliest established and influential Chinese academic journals in the field of surface treatment, with a large circulation and broad coverage. It has the largest professional readership and author community in China.

Aims and Scope

The journal mainly reports the latest scientific research achievements, practical processes and technologies in the field of surface engineering, including new thin film technologies, laser technologies, thermal spraying and thermal welding, coatings and painting, corrosion and protection, friction and wear, electroplating and electroless plating, anodizing (micro-arc oxidation) and hot-dip plating. The readership primarily consists of researchers, university students, professional engineering and technical personnel and management personnel in the field of surface engineering and related disciplines.

Indexing and Database Inclusion

The journal is currently indexed in the Chinese Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations, Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation (RCCSE), Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD) (Expanded), the Chinese Journal Quality Database, World Journal Clout Index (WJCI) of Scientific and Technological Periodicals (2023 STM). In 'High Quality Science and Technology Journal Classified Catalogu' issued by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, Materials Protection is selected as one of the T2 level journals in 'the field of Mechanical Engineering (Second Edition)', and one of Chinese high-level journals in the field of material surfaces and interfaces in 'the field of Material Failure and Protection'.

Awards

Materials Protection has won the “National Journal Award” for three consecutive times and “National Major Journal Awards” for four times. It has won the first prize for Excellent Scientific and Technological Journals in the mechanical industry for several times and has been selected as one of the “Ten Famous Journals in Hubei Province” for three consecutive times. It is included in the “Double High” (High Popularity and High Academic Level) journal directory in China and has once again received the honor of “Influential Journal of New China” on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
