In order to develop a more green, safe and environmental friendly chromium - free passivation process, the research progress of chromium - free passivation process on the surface of zinc coating at home and abroad was reviewed from three aspects of inorganic salt system, organic matter system and organic - inorganic composite system. Results showed that the existing single system chromium - free passivation solution had poor corrosion inhibition effect, and the chromium - free passivation process of inorganic salt composite, organic matter composite and inorganic - organic composite was adopted to improve the corrosion resistance of zinc surface, among which the composite phosphating process had been widely used in industry. With the improvement of environmental awareness, the application range of composite phosphate process was gradually limited. The organic - inorganic compound chromate - free passivation process broke the bottleneck of chromate - free passivation process research, and was the most likely to replace chromate passivation process. However, there was still much room for improvement in the research of chromium - free passivation process. The development of a single new type of inorganic and organic inhibitor and a new type of organic - inorganic mixed inhibitor was still the research hotspot of chromium - free passivation process on zinc coating in the future.
