For improving the anti-friction and corrosion resistant of 8Cr4Mo4V steel surface, WCx and CrN/WCx two coatings were deposited on silicon P(111)and 8Cr4Mo4V steel by vacuum magnetron sputtering coating technology, respectively.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)was used to observe the cross-section morphology of the coatings, and the friction and wear properties, hardness and elastic modulus, electrochemical corrosion properties and salt spray corrosion resistance of 8Cr4Mo4V steel and the two coatings were studied by the means of UMT high temperature friction and wear tester, step tester, nano-marker, electrochemical workstation and salt spray tester.Results showed that the cross-section structure of the coating was compact and uniform, and the coating enabled that the friction coefficient of 8Cr4Mo4V steel reduced to less than 0.20, the wear rate declined by 2~3 orders of magnitude, the nano-hardness increased by more than 3 times, the elastic modulus decreased by about 24%, the electrochemical corrosion was reduced by 1 order of magnitude, and the salt spray resistance was obviously improved.Thus, the coating played a good role in protecting the substrate.
