Abstract

In order to study the effect of metal ions on the corrosion of aluminum alloy, the corrosion resistance of AA5052 aluminum alloy in the simulated coolant (33% glycol solution) containing foreign ions (Cl-, Fe3+, Cu2+) was investigated by weight - loss method, plasma chromatography and the scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results showed that the corrosion reaction of AA5052 aluminum alloy in the above - mentioned solution followed a first - order kinetic process. Foreign ions accelerated the corrosion reaction of AA5052 alloy in the stimulate coolant. Besides, the order of corrosion rates of AA5052 aluminum alloy in glycol solutions containing different complex foreign ions was as follow: [Fe3++Cu2+]>[Fe3++Cu2++Cl-]>[Fe3++Cl-]>[Cu2++Cl-].
