Abstract

High - entropy alloys have unique phase structures and excellent properties. In this work, the AlCuFeNiCoSix high - entropy alloy coating was prepared on Q235 steel using argon - arc cladding technology to investigate the effect of Si on the structure, hardness, and wear resistance of the AlCuFeNiCo high - entropy alloy coating. Results showed that the high - entropy alloy coating was composed of BCC and FCC phases only, and no complex phases were observed. With the increase of Si content, the diffraction peaks of BCC structures, which were mainly dendritic crystals, decreased first and then increased. With the further increase of Si content, the dendritic crystals changed firstly into rod - like crystals and then into small dense and inhomogeneous crystals. Moreover, the hardness of the coating decreased first and then increased, and then decreased again. The hardness reached a maximum value of 62.5 HRC at x=0.75. In terms of wear resistance, the addition of Si at 0.75 increased the wear resistance by 26.3% compared to that without Si.
