Abstract

Seawater is a complex electrolyte solution, which is rich in various corrosive microorganisms.Sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB)widely existing in marine environment often attach to the surface of hull components and cause microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) of metals, thus accelerating corrosion failure of steel. For better studying the MIC behavior and protective measures of hull steel in marine environment, this paper firstly summarized the corrosion characteristics of hull steel in various service environments and analyzed the mechanism of MIC of metal by SRB.Subsequently, the evaluation techniques and analysis methods commonly used in the study of marine MIC were described. The advantages and disadvantages of various SRB corrosion protection methods were further summarized from the aspects of steel itself and service environment. Finally, the prospect of marine MIC research in the future was proposed, aiming at providing theoretical reference for marine corrosion prevention and control of hull steel.
