Abstract

To address the issue of poor plasticity and toughness of Fe-base amorphous coatings，deep cryogenic cycling treatment (DCT) was applied with varying numbers of cycles.The effects of 30 and 60 cycles of DCT on the structure and tribological properties of the coatings were studied.Results showed that the coating was still well adhered to the substrate and exhibited a typical layered structure after DCT.The structure and amorphous nature of the coating were not changed by DCT，but the relaxation enthalpy of the coating was increased.The free volume content of the coating was increased，and rejuvenation phenomenon was observed.The coating treated with 30 deep cryogenic cycles had the lowest average friction coefficient and wear rate，the highest H/E and H3/E2 values，and the best wear resistance under different loads (5，10，20 N).The wear mechanism of the untreated coating under different loads was mainly brittle spalling.After DCT，the wear mechanism of the coating was changed from brittle spalling to abrasive wear.Deep cryogenic cycle treatment was found to enhance the wear resistance of Fe-based amorphous coating.
