Abstract

In strong wind and sand environments, traditional connection fittings for overhead transmission lines experience severe wear during operation, which significantly impacts the safe and reliable operation of overhead transmission lines. To address this issue, the U-shaped suspension rings of the connection fittings were optimized in terms of dimensions, and a material selection study was conducted.Additionally, wear tests were performed on the newly designed U-shaped suspension rings. Results showed that U-shaped suspension rings made of 35CrMo steel exhibited superior wear resistance. After dimensional optimization of U-shaped suspension rings, the wear contact area increased, leading to a slight reduction in wear depth under the same wear volume. The failure load after the wear tests met the standard requirements. In contrast,U-shaped suspension rings made of Q355NH weathering steel demonstrated poor wear resistance, with a wear depth 2.3 times greater than that of 35CrMo steel after 150 000 wear cycles. Therefore, the optimized 35CrMo steel U-shaped suspension rings could be considered for application in transmission line projects.
