Abstract

In order to improve the corrosion inhibition efficiency of glycine, hydrophobic carbon chains were introduced onto the glycine molecule through molecular design.Using infrared spectroscopy (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to characterize the structure. The test results confirmed the successful synthesis of the glycine derivatives. The corrosion inhibition performance of the glycine derivatives on carbon steel in 1 mol/L HCl was investigated using weight loss method, polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The thermodynamic analysis and corrosion inhibition mechanism were also discussed. The weight-loss results showed that the corrosion inhibition efficiency of the glycine derivatives was higher than that of glycine itself. When the concentration of glycine derivatives reached 100 mg/L, the inhibition efficiency reached 93.04%.Thermodynamic analysis revealed that the adsorption of both glycine and its derivatives on the carbon steel surface followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, indicating a physical-chemical adsorption process. However, the absolute value of the adsorption free energy for the glycine derivative was larger, suggesting a stronger interaction between the molecule and the carbon steel surface.Polarization curves showed that the anodic curve shifted towards a lower current density with the addition of the glycine derivative, behaving as an anodic corrosion inhibitor.SEM images revealed that the carbon steel surface with the glycine derivative was smooth, without obvious corrosion marks, indicating that the glycine derivative provided effective protection for the carbon steel.
